Polysemy in Controlled Natural Language Texts
نویسندگان
چکیده
Computational semantics and logic-based controlled natural languages (CNL) do not address systematically the word sense disambiguation problem of content words, i.e., they tend to interpret only some functional words that are crucial for construction of discourse representation structures. We show that micro-ontologies and multi-word units allow integration of the rich and polysemous multi-domain background knowledge into CNL thus providing interpretation for the content words. The proposed approach is demonstrated by extending the Attempto Controlled English (ACE) with polysemous and procedural constructs resulting in a more natural CNL named PAO covering narrative multi-domain texts.

Allegory: Structure, Interpretation and Polysemy
In allegories polysemy relates not only to the context and the audience’s understanding but also to the structural characters of these texts. This paper investigates the function of structural and narrative properties in the creation of multiple interpretations of an allegory. Focusing on the events and following a unique story-line is the most important trait in helping to read the alleg...
متن کاملSyntactic Polysemy in Machine Translation
The paper focuses on the issues of establishing semantic content of syntactic structures via the contrastive study of the English and Russian language systems and parallel texts analysis for the tasks of machine translation. Particular attention is given to consideration of syntactic polysemy and ambiguity, and the mechanisms of polysemous structures presentation are proposed. The decisions are...
متن کاملThe Naproche Project: Controlled Natural Language Proof Checking of Mathematical Texts
The Naproche project (NAtural language PROof CHEcking) studies the semiformal language of mathematics (SFLM) as used in journals and textbooks from the perspectives of linguistics, logic and mathematics. A central goal of Naproche is to develop and implement a controlled natural language (CNL) for mathematical texts which can be transformed automatically into equivalent first order formulas by ...
متن کاملThe Naproche System
The Naproche project (Natural language Proof Checking) was initiated by Bernhard Schröder and Peter Koepke at the University of Bonn to focus on an interdisciplinary study of the semi-formal language of mathematics. A central goal of Naproche is to develop a controlled natural language (CNL) for mathematical texts and adapted proof checking software which checks texts written in the CNL for syn...
متن کاملControlling the language of statutes and regulations for semantic processing
Controlled Legal German (CLG) is a subset of legal German specifically designed to facilitate the semantic processing of Swiss statutes and regulations. In this paper, we describe the strategies CLG employs to reduce ambiguity and underspecification in such texts, and the methods it uses to maintain proximity to conventional legal language. The presented discussion suggests that, if existing sy...
